GHEG will publish under a gold open access model, and therefore all published papers will be freely available online. For the first two years whilst we encourage voluntary payments from those authors who do have appropriate funding through their institution or a funding body, Cambridge University Press will underwrite the APC for all authors. After the initial two years, a more restrictive waiver policy will operate.

All submitted articles will be peer-reviewed and will benefit from the full functionality associated with reputable journal publishing and a range of the latest author services including Altmetric, Kudos, and article usage statistics. The decision whether to accept articles will be made solely by the Editors in complete independence from Cambridge University Press.

The author will hold the copyright of published papers.

More detailed information about GHEG can be viewed via this link, or key information is below.

-What is “gold” open access?
In the gold open access model an article’s content is made freely available on the publisher’s online platform. The published article is referred to as the “Version of Record” (VoR). An article’s VoR is published under a creative commons license that allows others to reuse or republish the content without the explicit permission of the copyright holder.
-What is the Article Processing Charge?
The costs of publication are covered by an Article Publishing Charge (APC) levied upon the corresponding author, or his/her funding body or institution. For GHEG articles submitted for publication during 2016 and 2017, Cambridge University Press will waive the APC for all authors. From 2018 a more restrictive waiver policy will operate, but Cambridge will still meet the costs for those from eligible countries. Excluding waiver cases listed above, the APC will be billed on acceptance of the article for publication. The decision whether to accept a paper for publication will rest solely with the Editors, and without reference to the funding situation of the authors. The Editors, editorial board members, and reviewers will have no involvement with the billing of APCs and cannot grant waivers.
